Next up: A.C. Marshman, Deadwood South Dakota

Image
A. C. Marshman was my GG-grandfather, a civil war veteran, a quartz miner, and was on the Deadwood Central Committee (a committee of local business owners, like councilmen) during the time that Wild Bill Hickok was also in town. Wild Bill arrived in town with Calamity Jane, Charlie Utter and a bunch of prostitutes. Wild Bill was killed over a poker game with the famous "Aces and Eights" hand. See the Deadwood timeline here .

More genealogy: Abram Bond

My GG-grandfather, Abram Bond, was born on 11 January 1838 in Purleigh, Chelmsford, Essex, England. I'm fairly sure his parents were Thomas Bond (b. 1791, d 25 Sep 1861) and Sarah Filby (b. 1813, d. 8 Feb 1867), both from Purleigh. Thomas Bond was listed as an agricultural laborer in the 1861 England Census. Abram had three brothers (William, Thomas, and David) and two sisters (Harriet and Frances Ann). William Bond was killed while fighting at Balaclava with British troups in the Crimean War. On a small piece of paper, Abram noted: "William Bond died February 15th, 1855, discovered his death January 18th 1856, at Terkey (sic)." Abram immigrated to America on July 6, 1869, then to London, Ontario, Canada. He settled in St. Thomas, Elgin, Ontario. I don't know much about his life prior to his settling in Canada at age 31. On July 6, 1869, at 11:00 am, he arrived on board the "American Union". He had boarded on 22 May 1869 in London, England. The same day he l...

Stuart came to California from Maine in about 1863, later followed by other family members. Joseph married Charlotte B. Campbell on 21 December 1866 in Silveyville, California. He was a rancher and farmer. His birthdate is also recorded as 20 September 1844. The family lived in Moorpark and in Piru California. In 1888, Joseph worked on the Fairview cattle ranch and citrus grove. This ranch is now the Leavens Fairview Ranch, 12681 Broadway Rd, Moorpark, CA. His sister, Rose Hannah, died in the San Francisco eartquake of 1906 when visiting her brother in Ventura. Following is the entry in the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery Index Book: Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery Western Half, Plot 303 Rose Hannah Brown born 1 Jul 1840, Exeter, ME ...
