What do you do if Sarah Palin won't give you an interview?

Palin interview answer generator .

Old school sexism

McCain thinks this is some Hugh Hefner fantasy of a guy running for president. Babes and gambling. Just what we need, right. A great post by Coates at the Atlantic . Here's a snippet: He knew full well what Sarah Palin was going to face if he nominated her. He knew that reporters would go through her past, that they'd quizz her on the present, that she would need to be ready, and he shunted concern aside, and tossed her to the wolves. Think on that for a mement [sic]. For one last run at the White House, he risked a future star of the party he claims to call home. How do you do that? I don't meant to rob Palin of agency, certainly she is also a victim of her own calculations and ambitions. There is a whole class of educated, working women, themselves, the children of educated working women. And this is what McCain has to say to them, "I don't care if you know a thing about foreign policy. I don't care if you know a damn thing about the economy. Here is what you...

Newest attack on Obama - more lies

Michelle Malkin has posted here , about the allegations that Obama, who worked for the ACORN organization as a community organizer in Chicago, is somehow responsible for voter fraud. Here's the real story from the Seattle Times: ( read full article here ) The defendants faked cards as an easy way to get paid, not as an attempt to influence the outcome of elections, said King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg. None of the phony registrations led to illegal voting. "This is the worst case of voter-registration fraud in the history of the state of Washington. There has been nothing comparable to this," state Secretary of State Sam Reed said at a news conference with Satterberg, King County Executive Ron Sims and acting U.S. Attorney Jeff Sullivan. State and local officials said they have signed a five-year agreement with ACORN that requires the organization to beef up its training and procedures for detecting and reporting fraud. ACORN agreed to pay King County $25,...

That brunette looked better last night...

Over at Alaska Robotics - Pat has something interesting to say: "Our country has been staggering around like a belligerent drunk for the past several years. We’re swilling oil, spending money we don’t have and tomorrow we’re going to wake up with a hangover and a brunette who looked a lot better the night before."

Margaret Cho has articulated what I think about Gov. from Alaska and women like her. I've met a few. "  ...she is the ultimate misogynist. She is a woman hater in the extreme. To force women to have children against their will, to deny abortion rights EVEN in cases of incest and rape is abominable. She is an insult to feminism, a sickening example what a woman will do to other women in order to please men and further her own career. Women do s**t like that to other women to keep them down – to make their achievement seem more extraordinary – to keep women out of their way, so they can enjoy all the power and the men themselves, and that stuff makes them worse than sexist men. It is worse to be a traitor than a perpetrator."

What happened in the White House meeting yesterday?

EmperorHadrian says it best: "Fourty years of republican misrule has brought us to this. Financial ruin at every level. But CNN reported on what happened inside the meeting at the White House today. Its failure seems to have caused the failure of this deal, and this meeting would not have occured if McCain hadn't demanded it. He took another huge gamble, and lost. After the cameras left, Boehner started ranting about the right wing "plan" (deregulation, capital gains tax cuts, and an insurance plan that Paulson said won't work). Bush was silent, and McCain said nothing. It seems as though Obama was the only one who tried to lead the meeting to some productive conclusion. CNN said that Obama first tried to reason with Boehner, and ask him to detail what his plan was. After he did this, Obama calmly asked Paulson if it would work, and Paulson said that it definately would not work (which was why house republicans didn't ask him about this at the meeting yester...

Holy Diversion Batman!

This past Monday, there was a Senate Democratic Policy Committee hearing: An Inside View of the "Second Insurgency": How Corruption and Waste Are Undermining the U.S. Mission in Iraq . While many of the projects audited "were not needed -- and many were never built," he said, "this very real fact remains: Billions of American dollars that paid for these projects are now gone." -- Salaam Adhoob, Former Chief Investigator (Baghdad), Iraqi Commission on Public Integrity There was an Anonymous Whistleblower witness. You can read his statement here . Here are some lowlights: Top Iraqi government officials within the Ministry of Oil and other Ministries have worked with Al-Qaeda and Iraqi Islamic States terrorists at the major northern oil refinery at Baji to steal oil from the refinery and sell it on the black market to enrich themselves and fund terrorist attacks against U.S. and Iraqi troops. When U.S. troops arrested the head of the oil refinery one year ago...

I think this guy is great - the Rude Pundit

It all fits . Maybe there's still hope.

The bear trap is set...

I'm with Marc Ambinder and Jsn on DailyKos on this. McCain is holding the debate hostage if this bailout doesn't pass and he plans to vote No. That way he can look like a maverick by going against his own party (president).

Who is T. J . Birkenmeier?

He's the man (I think), the man with the plan. I think this just might work . The fact that it wouldn't even get consideration should tell you something. This bailout is a scam.  Republicans will vote against it. Dems will vote for it. They have the majority so it will pass. Something bad will happen and it won't help. There will be a run on the banks, riots will ensue, martial law will be declared, elections will be suspended. Your best bet, go hide in the basement of the UN building (its not part of the US) or start your citizenship papers for Canada.

Terry McAuliff - off his rum bender

Campaigning in Pennsylvania on 9/20 he tells a crowd: "Under Obama, if you're 65 or over and make less than $50K per year, you will pay no Federal income tax. Under McCain, if you currently have company-backed health insurance, it will become taxable income." Courtesy of — Christina Bellantoni, national political reporter,  The Washington Times

Hey SP, where are your ethics? Sarah: "I'll try to find some and I'll bring 'em to ya."

Michael Markarian at the Human Society Legislative Fund tells us that the Humane Society endorses Obama/Biden.  Guess they just couldn't go with the cat hater.

OMGWTFBBQ - DCRTW!

If there's an electoral college tie (269-269) between Obama and McCain, then the House votes to select the winner. With a Democratic House, you'd think, cool no-brainer, Obama wins right? WRONG! With Lieberman voting as a Republican, there's a 50-50 tie in the House. In that situation, the current Vice President would need to step in and do his job as the tie-breaker in the House. Dick Cheney rules the world! Not to be panicky or anything, over at FiveThirtyEight.com , they predict only a 1.08% chance of an electoral tie. It was up over 3% last week.

Details behind tribal gambling and campaign contributions

Read this report from Chris McGann at the Seattle PI article from June 12, 2008.  Basically, Chris Gregoire killed the tribal gambling compact that could have led to an unlimited expansion of gambling and betting. Other states that have similar compacts have not fared well. The $40M Rossi's ads proclaim as being "lost" wasn't lost, it was "potential" tax revenue. As for the tribes contributing to the Democrats, no law against it, and she was up-front about it. There were public hearings. She took input before killing the compact. It's what the people wanted (or didn't want). They weighed the pros and cons.  Sounds like sound leadership to me. She made a difficult decision. On the one hand, there seems to be a huge raft of corruption surrounding unlimited gambling expansion in other states . On the other hand: Tribes have been using lobbyists like Jack Abramoff. Questionable! Does that mean Dino Rossi wouldn't have any trouble dealing with the po...

Get your wicker man ready for 9:03 PM PDT

Oh man - this is creepy. Check out the eerie resemblance of Goronwy/Blodeuwedd to McCain/Palin. I have to stop now - my brain's exploding again. This is from Mabon : Mythically, this is the day of the year when the god of light is defeated by his twin and alter-ego, the god of darkness. It is the time of the year when night conquers day. And as I have recently shown in my seasonal reconstruction of the Welsh myth of Blodeuwedd, the Autumnal Equinox is the only day of the whole year when Llew (light) is vulnerable and it is possible to defeat him. Llew now stands on the balance (Libra/autumnal equinox), with one foot on the cauldron (Cancer/summer solstice) and his other foot on the goat (Capricorn/winter solstice). Thus he is betrayed by Blodeuwedd, the Virgin (Virgo) and transformed into an Eagle (Scorpio). Two things are now likely to occur mythically, in rapid succession. Having defeated Llew, Goronwy (darkness) now takes over Llew's functions, both as lover to Blodeuwedd, t...

Sign posting and sign stealing

I've never quite figured out the need to advertise for whom you're voting. Buttons, hats, T-shirts, lawn signs. Maybe I'm just a poseur non-conformist. I do admit to owning a couple of Obama 08 buttons and a hat. I got the hat primarily because I have a really hard time seeing why we should contribute to a campaign. That just doesn't sound right to me - in a fundamental way. So, while I wanted to support Obama, I just felt like I needed a hat for my first $25.00. But that's another post. (I think its an old post-punk anarchy thing - Lobotomy!) On the one hand, I guess its a way to passively canvass. Which is a good thing I guess. People might ask you questions about your choice, etc. But it can also become crazy I think. Like sign-stealing. What's up with that shit? And then there's the sign-stealing web cam vigil . Wow.  How about stealing some of those housing developement sale signs that they seem to post in clusters of 5 or 10? Those really suck. Like an...

Reasons for VP Choices

I recently linked to Emerald City Scion's post on McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his VP on the Republican ticket. Interestingly, there's a great article in The Nation by JoAnn Wypijewski entitled, " Beauty and the Beast ."   Setting aside the scary part about anti-semitism, the part about power, manipulation, and Sarah's long-term goals is interesting.  I find it absolutely amazing that anyone with a brain would even consider voting for the Republicans.

I see parallels with the Handmaid's Tale

Read the Social Critique section of the Wikipedia entry.

Happy Constitution Day

Here's a good section to review. Article II, Section 2 .

How important is your country to you?

As John Cusack points outs in his diary on Huffington Post: Obama must hit Republicans ten times harder. Let's hear about war profiteering, taxpayer-funded mercenary armies and privatizing core functions of state, habeas corpus and warrantless wiretapping and presidential signing statements, and Katrina and justice department politicization, and phony intel and Abu Ghraib, rendition and torture.

McCain using Push Polling

Based on research about the company ( Wilson Research Strategies ) illegedly responsible for the recent push polling of Jewish voters as described by Ben Smith on Politico.com, it seems that Tyler Haber, who is listed on the WRS Executive Team along with Byron Allen among others, has appeared as a "Republican Strategist" on Fox News. See excerpt here . The transcript is somewhat telling, in that it seems he says "we," falters, then restates his affiliation as not with the McCain campaign, but with WRS. Without hearing/seeing the clip - its really hard to tell. This would seem to be pretty pathetic/ironic/outrageous - you choose - considering McCain accused his rivals of the same thing in the previous election . Push Polling should be illegal. Here are a few of the questions in the poll, according to Ben Smith's source:  "Would it change your mind about Obama if you knew that his church was anti-Israel? Would it change your mind if you knew that the of lead...

Disgraceful - dishonorable - unbelievable

Read this from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. My guess is that she would be opposed to this book as well.

Excellent video

Do you support Bush today, more than you did four years ago? If so, then vote McCain/Palin.

'Bush 44'

Joe Biden had some good remarks today, among them,  "If you're ready for four more years of George Bush, John McCain is your man. Just as George Herbert Walker Bush was nicknamed `Bush 41' and his son is known as `Bush 43,' John McCain could easily become known as `Bush 44.'" Also saw a commenter on HuffPo call Sarah 'Mooselini' - OMGWTFBBQ!

Sarah Palin / Tina Fey - Separated At Birth?

Man I had been thinking that these two looked alike for a long time so I wasn't surprised that SNL called on Tina to play the part of Republican veep nom Sarah Palin. I loved the coment that Hillary Clinton (played by Amy Poehler) about the "Tina Fey glasses". That's it, it's the glasses! Best Saturday night opening skit in years!

Governor Chris Gregoire - editorial on Daily Kos

Our very own excellent Governor has posted an editorial on the Daily Kos.

Interesting theory on subliminal response to Sarah

Here's Emerald City Scion's theory (I think I buy it) on why McSame's VP choice is having such a positive effect on the poll numbers for the Republicans.

Bruce Riddle - he got paid

My Mom occasionally forwards me emails she receives from her conservative friends attacking Barack Obama or Joe Biden. She just sent me the one allegedly from Bruce D. Riddle accusing Joe Biden of stiffing him on payments for campaign work. According to Ask.com, Bruce got paid .  No issue. Move on - nothing to see here.
